Another Lockdown

Life goes backwards again

Another week, another lockdown
people fled, they left the town
we stayed behind, too bored to drive
needless to say, can't even hike
The people downstairs all look depressed
they finally thought to clean up their mess
been stacking stuff outside their door
half their life is on first floor
You put your mask on, don't look back
police behind you not that far
they're checking papers, should you be out?
where are you going? do you work out?
Off to the butcher's to get me some steak
wearing my mask, I know I am safe
stop asking for papers, you know I am good
go off to the parks or check in the hood
Back at the house, with nowhere to go
we lock our door while checking the floor
the neighbours have left, they locked up and gone
their stuff is still out there, who knows for how long
When this is all over, who will return?
Will we be happy with all that we have?
I sure will be missing the quiet unrest,
Us on the sofa with cuddles and zest.
When this is all over, I won't run outside
I'll stay in my sofa, with no one in sight
My books and my coffee is all that I need,
your arms and a kiss and nothing between.
